I am a pretty resourceful person, and I know everything to be good on my wrecked car, yeah it could use performance, but it's all working..
The engine/trans/turbo/jettronic have already been removed as a complete unit.
I've traced the apc wiring and found 1 empty fuse in the dash on the new car, so obviously it needs to be wired in, I've also found the vacuum line to the tach in the dash, which goes to numerous other parts just above the driver kick-panel, but thats vaccuum, so again easy to change.
What I CAN'T find is WHERE the ecu is different? Is it just the box behind the false bulkhood? Thats already removed with the engine, and I can't see any difference in the wiring at that point. Both cars have a jettronic FI box, though I know the difference is within and plan on changing them, is there another box hidden behind and under the fuse panel in the dash? I know the apc fuse is missing, and plan on tracing that. I don't care if the entire dash ends up being transferred, I actually prefer the tan.
Otherwise, I havn't needed, or plan on, any trips to the part store, everything is complete as it is, and plenty of spare parts between the two, I'm looking for a true know how of doing this. Or any suggestions on making it easier (ie: bypassing computers w/ performance parts) IF I spend $ it will be on performance, not looks, and I know lots of ways of bypassing or 'jimmy rigging' ..
The only thing I've considered at this point is a spendy manual to get accurate wiring diagrams.. I'm a computer programmer that likes cars, so wiring is my forte here, just not so much with projects this big, so if it can be narrowed down to the specific wiring that the turbo needs to run in a NA and where that is located I'm pretty positive I can go from there..
Appreciate the help, and concerns, I understand what I've gotten into, but the way I figure it, some jerk ruined my car, I have all the time and tools in the world, but lack much money aside from whats in other project cars, so if it's building it up, I might be able to do it, but if it's a straight swap, I don't understand why it's so frowned, aside from the time, and obviously being an 'advanced' jig-saw puzzle ;-) But all the components are there, the only things 'broken' are all good on the other car, and vice-versa, mine was a highly used, very dependable fun turbo, while the other was a screwed around, vandalized/abused NA, so it has issues like broken door locks/windows, bad engine maint. But it is VERY clean, the wiring is clean, not fryed like most, the body is great, so transferring the entire car basically seems like it should be as it sounds. think of it as a ground-up rebuild, just someone is half done?
My father has owned 5 Saabs, the 3rd being the one I own and was wrecked, and my personal favorite :( .. The one I just purchased would be the 6th, so I am VERY familiar with these by now, all were 9000 or 900's between ranging, 87,86,86,90,90,87 in years, so I also know the ones I have are MUCH easier, as there is NO ABS or DI to worry about, the computer is fairly simple, both jettronic FI, exhaust is last since I can always bolt up a pipe and custom make it later ( I know welders, machine shops, etc.) I also own a 69 Chevelle Malibu, which has just about had a frame-off-resto, and only needing paint..
Sorry for rattling on, but wanted to give some background that you can see I'm seriously looking to do this and would really appreciate some advice from some people that have taken this on before.
-Thanks
