I drove the old '99 (NA) model and had like zero $.
Something big went, I don't recall what - but here's the kicker:
There was a banged up parts car for real cheap and I got it only to
find out it had the wrong powerplant in it...there was then a UK
engine/tranny and another that faced the 'wrong' direction, and I
was told over and over that it COULD NOT BE DONE !!!
Well, guess what ?
It could, and it did - and the worst of it was the fiddly gear shift
linkage, but I got good at that with some help too and drove that
car until I got a better job and needed a car that'd make the long
commute without the manually switched cooling fan allowing it to
overheat on the warmer days - but I drove that one for years before
I had to sell it - and somebody else drove it some more after me !
So having read the whole thread and your other one too, I'd offer
this for a suggestion: What've you got to lose by trying ?
And who knows, maybe you could teach someone else how to do it later
on when they are in a similar fix ?!
Good Luck !
