Extracting broken studs Posted by DickT [Email] (#1628) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DickT) on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 03:54:53 In Reply to: Re: Correct..., techlectic, Tue, 15 Jun 2010 16:31:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just got 3 out of my cylinder head. Use a center punch to establish starting point. Take your time. Keep fussing with it until it's centered. Start drilling with a 1/4" bit to create a uniform divot. Don't go in too deep. Shoulder ought to be about where the threads begin. Switch to 3/16", and drill through the center of the stud. Be careful about being square to the surface and don't go too far! If you use a left hand drill you might be lucky and find the stud backing out on its own. If not use an EZ out. Chase the threads with a fresh tap and you're good to go.
