Interesting about the single speed vs two speed fan. I've tried looking for the official temperatures where the fans are supposed to come on.
According to my Haynes, high speed fan should come on at 111 celcius which is 232 Fahrenheit and fits well with what I've observed. Low speed should come on a 100 degrees celcius (212 Fahrenheit).
So it would appear that the fan operation I'm getting is only the high speed, even though there's only a relay in the "low speed" socket. I guess it would also mean that the temp sensor for the gauge is accurate since it's the one used for fan operation?
Italy has quite high temperatures during summer so it'd make more sense for the car to have the 2 speed fan. On the other hand there is no separate AC fan and I'm pretty sure there is no fan resistor in the wiring or a thermostatic switch in my radiator.
As for the temp gauge - I've never seen it higher than 9 on this car or my previous 9000. Interestingly the times I've seen it highest are when it's coldest outside - probably because the EDU is using outside temp to compare the temp diff.?
