that may or may not help: first, program** the ACC to start in Econ during the months you don't need it. Especially when there are other drivers using the car who may not be fuel conscious.
Second, during those spring/fall sunny days when it's still cool out but the sun is warming the interior, try this: tilt the sunroof open w/ the sunshade back three or four inches. Then, open the right rear passenger window about an inch. The noise isn't bad at all, even at 70+ mph, and the air circulates around the back seat, over the driver's shoulder, and up the sunroof. Really keeps things cool, even with the ACC completely 'off'. And I don't expect there's much extra drag with the window / sunroof opened those small amounts.
Too many years of driving an un-air conditioned '80 99 GLi, I guess. And I'm cheap, too.
