Experience with dielectric grease showed it can adsorb moisture and become conductive. As a economy measure, dielectric grease was substituted for the epoxy fill in MS connector back shells, this resulted in complaints of transmission solenoid problems. Returned harnesses would have identical continuity between any combination of contacts, due to bulk resistance of the grease. Resistance would slowly increase with time (months) until it went to infinity. Heating the connectors or removing the grease would restore infinite resistance between contacts. The continuity effect could be reproduced by submerging the grease filled connectors in water for a few days. As a high temperature spark plug boot lube, moisture continuity issues would be minimal due to plug and engine heat driving off any moisture.
