"the resonator is of no acoustical value unless you prefer a quiet car"
That phrase is pretty comical. That's the point of the entire muffler system. It's like saying attic insulation is of no insulating value unless you prefer to reduce heat loss through the attic.
There isn't actually a resonator on a 9000, it has two mufflers. A resonator is something entirely different, and is not present on most stock cars. I do not understand the desire to have a certain level of loudness. Silent would be ideal, and every level louder than that is proportionately less desirable. I can understand the reason of lower cost and less maintenance, but intentionally raising the noise level is exactly on par with the people who put coffee cans on the end of their Honda Civics, or Harley riders with straight pipes; pure affectation. If it's not loud enough to be heard in the car, then your reason to want it louder is purely to make some kind of impression on the people around you. I would guess that it's a negative impression in a large proportion of cases. As for the performance gain, I would wager a large sum of money that it is entirely imagined. Sorry to be so negative, but this whole idea and the rationalizations supporting it seem very silly to me.
