Never had a brake problem before - what's up with this? Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Mon, 9 Sep 2013 07:31:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm a total newbie to brake issues, so I'm looking for some opinions. I've changed my pads and rotors twice in my 11 years with my 9k, along with a few ABS sensors here and there, and that's it. So this is new for me.
My 9k is currently only driven for about half the year. One morning last winter, I was backing out of my driveway (slight downhill) and the brake pedal went to the floor and the car barely stopped. After one pump of the pedal, it went back to normal and never happened again.
Fast forward to yesterday. The poor car has sat since early July without being started (my bad). I started it up, backed out and noticed the pedal went to the floor again. After a pump, it comes back. On the next try, it goes to the floor again. Then it comes back. It literally alternates with every pedal cycle. When it does come back, the brakes engage much higher than they normal would. When it's on the floor, the car barely stops rolling.
Sooo, after this long winded post, any guesses what I'm looking at? This car is a '95 CS (auto) with about 210k miles. The fluid was last changed at whatever the last major service was - I maintain this car well and follow all of the fluid recommendations, and always have.
Thanks!
