The owner of this yard got a brand new big Volvo loader a few years ago and a bigger crusher. So he can crush more cars at a time and crush faster.
But he still runs the yard the way he always has - - he stops crushing in the fall and lets the yard fill up over winter, then once the frost goes out of the ground and the town un-posts the road against heavy trucks, he starts crushing again with a will.
And he gets fewer Saabs by far than say 10 years ago. And, I'd say, fewer cars overall. He used to have them stacked two high all over the place, 3 high in spots.
He does still get the occasional real oddity - - I had my tools spread over the engine compartment of what was left of a Nash Metropolitan convertible.
All that's there Saabwise at present is this picked-over 9000, a picked-over 9-5, and two 9-3s. Had a C900 vert there in late fall, Vern Foxe, poster on C900 BB, was there one day getting a few things. But now it's crushed and gone.
There's an indy in Waterboro who has a small field full of C900s and his brother in law, who did business as Trident on Rte. 1 in Saco, still does Saab work, but kind of under the radar, and he has a lot of all models stashed. For particular needs I'd go to them, but I can't remember the names. Call Portland Volvo parts dept. and ask them (in Scarborough, ME).
