Thanks!
The car has 145K on it now. (The other owner had a Porsche 928S, a Viggen, and a daily driver in addition to the 9000, so it didn't get a lot of miles in 4 years.)
I have a set of the original wheels in the attic which need refinishing. I put the '98 CSE wheels on when the originals got too ugly for me. I bought the car with white powder coat on the original wheels, so I painted them silver. After several years, that silver started to yellow and the clear coat began to crack. I picked up the '98 wheels to buy some time for me to refinish the originals. It's on my list. (I also want to look into Klingons... I'd love that.) My favorite 9000 Wheel is the two-tone '91-'93 16" Aero wheel. Second favorite is the '98 CSE.
The picture was taken before I left LA for NorCal just this week. It has been very well taken care of. The other owner put LED lights all over the place, so the turn signals and brake lights were causing the blinkers to flash fast, and the pictogram was illuminating when I hit the brakes. I put incandescent lights back in there, and all is fixed. There were also HID bulbs (with the external ballasts) in the low beams. The bulbs didn't seem to seat correctly, they set off the headlight pictogram, and were very blue, so the light pattern was all wonky. I just put Silverstars back in there, and the pictogram and light pattern are fixed.
There are a couple of other things I'll look into on the car, but it is in just about the same condition as when I sold it, which is to say, it's one of the nicer Aeros on the road today. The cruise control doesn't work, but I think the clutch switch is missing or just came out of its slot, so that might be easy.
It has B&G lowering springs (very stiff), Bilsteins, and SAS sway bars. I put the SAS bars on it prior to selling it in 2010. The last owner put the springs and shocks in it. I'll drive ti for a while and see if I decide to keep the B&G springs, or switch them out for Aero springs (because with Bilsteins and SAS bars, it might be perfectly suited for my uses, though the added crispness of the B&G springs might end up growing on me. Time will tell.
The previous owner took great care of it, and took care of some issues that the car had when I sold it. He replaced the axles, put a beautiful, custom, all-aluminum dual-core radiator in it, and put an Maptun manual boost controller in there as well as doing a HG and having the head checked out and addressed. A lot of preventive maintenance was done to the car in his care, so it came back to me in a condition that seems to be "ready for another 100K" from a mechanical perspective.
It's rad to have an Aero that I know so well, and one that is truly in phenomenal shape. No rust, never a spot of paint work, everything works (except cruise, and the SRS light flashes, as it has since about 2006!)
I'll be more active here in the 9000 board now that I'm back. I've lingered here for the past 4 years and have been active over on the general board for over a decade!
Cheers,
~Peter
