You know... I never really wanted to sell that car, but the logistics of "keeping" it while my wife and I lived in Kyrgyzstan simply forced the sale.
I've had an SPG for over a year now, and as much as the c900 is held in such high regard as a quintessential Saab, I always felt the 9000 suited me better. (Don't get me wrong, I love the c900s. I learned to drive stick in my brother's '83 900S, drove my other brother's '91 900 plenty, and I was even driven home from the hospital upon my arrival here on this earth in a '78 Saab 99, so I'm no stranger to the 99/900. They are very great cars!)
I always tried to explain to people how the 9000 (Aero especially, for me) simply ticks more boxes and does them so well when compared to other cars. There are faster cars. There are cars that get better mileage. There are cars/trucks that can haul more stuff. There are cars that handle better. There are not cars with better seats, or with anything close to the combination of those attributes. New cars today are getting closer and closer. Our 9-5 wagon does do a fine job of blending those characteristics as well. And the 9000 just has such character!
I had started casually looking for a '91-'92 Turbo, or a very nice Aero (manual). If it wasn't one of those, I was looking at really well-kept e30 BMWs as well as e46 BMWs (Also had to be a manual.) The e30 is another weak spot of mine. Though not nearly as versatile as a 9000, they hit the driveability nail on the head for me. (I've owned three of those)
Let's just say that I knew I'd be back. I just didn't know I'd show up in the same car! Moving over seas forced the sale. (My for sale ad is still archived in the "Sold 9000s" section of the classifieds. My last words: "I'm going to regret selling this car."
Cheers everyone, and Happy New Year!
~Peter
