To the best of my knowledge and belief the B234 ended production with the last 9000 produced in 1998. The last official word we have from Saab is from the '98 9000 owners manual. I'm not aware of any technical service bulletins that amended what the manual says. I have a '98 owners manual (for USA and CDN cars), and this is what it says verbatim:

Quality:
Lubricant meeting the API SH or ILSAC GF - 1 requirements
Viscosity:
SAE 10W/30, 10W/40, 5W/30, 5W/40; if these viscosities are not available, 15W40 may be used, except in cold weather
Oil capacity, incl. filter (for oil change) 5.0 qts (4.7L)

At the time the manual went to print the "highest" API standard was SJ and the "highest" ILSAC standard was GF-2. Both of these standards had been around since 1996. Saab did not recommend API SJ or ILSAC GF-2 oils for the B234 engine.
