Clutch slave gone, need to move car...

My clutch slave, which has been leaking slowly for a couple of months, finally died on me this week. Pedal went to the floor, no clutch etc.
I need to move the car ~5 miles, to a place where it can be operated on (it's by the side of the rod at the moment). I thought that perhaps if I bled the clutch, I'd be able to drive it there, changing gear as little as possible. I've just tried bleeding it, and it hasn't worked. Initially, the pedal feels firm, but after a couple of pushes, it's back on the floor again. This is puzzling, since the fluid in the reservoir hardly goes down.
So, a couple of questions. Why is the pedal going down to the floor, when no fluid is being lost from the reservoir? Also, any ideas how I can get it 5 miles from here? Right now, I'm thinking start and drive it in 2nd, and knock it out of gear to stop.
Any thoughts much appreciated.
