What is it with 9ks? (rant)

Let me start off by saying that I'm relatively new to 9ks. I've had many 900s over the years, and done pretty much every conceivable mechanical operation on them. But this is my first 9k, 8 months now.
I wanted to check/top up the gearbox oil level, because I have a minor leak. After finding out that I have I dipstick, with a bolt head (thanks Craig), I thought I'd remove it. Couldn't apply enough torque with a ring spanner, so I thought I'd get a socket on it. After 30mins of trying, decided that the silver coloured air pipe, going from intercooler to throttle body had to come out. I simply couldn't move it enough to get a socket on the dipstick. However, in order to remove the pipe, the air filter housing had to be unscrewed. Possibly the most inaccessible 4 torx screws ever. Screen wash bottle had to come off first. Many cuts later, I managed to remove the air box, and move the pipe sufficiently out of the way.
I checked the oil, which was low, then topped up, and put everything back in place.
Total time for checking gearbox oil and topping up? 1.5 hours (mainly the 4 torx screws), and many cuts from the APC hoses by the turbo.
Am I being stupid? Is there an easier way? Are 9000s a pain in the ass to work on?
Don't get me started on the clutch slave/master.....
I think I'll spend some time with my 900 next weekend.
