Made the change from dino to synthetic at 187k on my '95 Aero. Always changed between 2500/3000 for the past 6 years. Would love to go 500k on engine, and cold weather (in New England)surely makes even 5w30 dino thick. Always used synthetic on all my pull start motors (4 wheelers, log splitters)so they would start easier in Winter, so same logic applied for car. Use Mobil 1 5w30, and same WIX filter I have always used (51348)-
made the change based on info from this site and edmunds (I also have Silverado p/u) - consensus seems to be- use synthetic if you want best longevity, and easier work during cold weather
good luck- Tom
