It is possible that the LED is bad. When I first got my car, I tried to arm the alarm, and didn't get any response. After my first post to this list, I got the instructions to re-activate it - pull the fuse for a bit, then turn the key in the drivers' door from neutral to unlock 3 times within 2 seconds - and it looked like nothing happened. Until a bit later, when I unlocked the hatch to put something in - then it went off. :)
It turns out that the LED was burned out too.
You can check the voltage going to the LED to see if it's arming - there are 3 screws holding the speaker cover on (torx #9, I think - I had to go buy the correct bit)
