The 9000 is a more refined vehicle than the 900. It has more power,
has more interior and cargo space, and is as easy, if not easier, to
work on than the 900. The gear boxes above MY '94 are substantially
stronger than any 900 gearbox, if we're talking about standards.
The engine is virtually bulletproof and can be 'tuned' to almost 300 hp
without any major modifications. There are a few components that
are susceptible to early failure: DI cartridges will run very hot if the
plug gaps are too wide and can quit in as little as 20k miles. BPC
valves, a simple electro/mechanical device that controls turbo boost,
seem to also have a high mortality rate. Although, any basic turbo
Saab is a good candidate for increasing horsepower, the model that
will give you the most value for your buck is the Aero. Not only did
it come standard with a 225 hp (200 hp/Automatic) engine, it also
had a lot of nice extra features: Seats with great lateral support,
stiffer suspension, nicer/wider/larger wheels, and a nicer CD/Stereo.
A '95 Aero is a very discreet 'hotrod' with understated, yet elegant
clothing - I'll guarantee that once you've spent some time behind
the wheel of a nice Aero, you'll never regret the step-up from the 900...
