Before I start, I drive a 1987 9kT and a 1986 900 16vT. I love them both very much, for different reasons. I do all the work myself.
My point of disagreement is about the ease of working-on. The 900 is easier by a mile. Try these few items - clutch (+ its hydraulics), alternator, starter, harmonic balancer, heater core, air/oil filter(!), to name but a few. I've replaced all of these on 900s and 9ks, and believe me, it is much easier on a 900. There is a lot more space to work in on a 900 than a 9k.
There are a few things where the 9k wins, especially the hooter valve, the fuel filter, and the gearbox.
Having said that, the 9k is a much more refined ride (if not as much fun), faster, more economical, much better gearbox, and generally a damn good car.
If I had to chose between my cars, the 900 would win. But I like having both.
