I have owned my 1976 99 for 20 years. It has been my daily driver for most of that time. Just be sure to do regular maintenance. The transmission requires a fluid change every 15,000 miles. If it is the original trans, then it requires SAE EP 75 API GL-5 gear oil, which is a little hard to find.
To make it a reliable daily driver you should upgrade the points ignition. I installed a Crane Cams XR-700 ignition about 10 years ago and it is the single most important upgrade I have made. It has worked flawlessly. It improves running across the board, but especially cold and high rpm (including cruising at 70 mph at 4000 rpm!). If I were to do it again, I would get the higher performance XR-3000 and a new coil like the Crane Cams PS-60. It is only a little more money and it would allow me to run a bigger spark plug gap which would help with cold running. You can get these kits at Summit Racing.
