I really enjoy and prefer my 96 on trips. My wife loves it too. We especially love it when it is cold. The car gets so cozy warm.
I have taken a few trips in the southest that total about 800 miles round trip, and have had no problems at all. This is a v4 with electronic ignition, and a weber carb.
The rpm's do wind out pretty high when you're going 70mph, but it seems to like running at that speed just fine. It is much louder than a newer car. I have a '72 with original good condition seats, but I also have the headrest and inserts which make a huge difference for me than the earlier seats with no headrests. I do miss the armrests that are in the newer cars, but I love the way it drives on the road. Steering is nice and tight. I hope to drive my 96 on trips for many years to come.
