Is the Australian heat getting to you????
Personally I have resigned myself to the fact that if I want to drive European cars in Australia, especially old ones, then I will be hot. But anyway here are some of my biased comments on ac in 99s.
From my experience with air con in my late 99T I would say it is probably not worth the effort. I am not sure what the York set up is that has been mentioned, I assume it it the original setup. But from my previous experience I suggest an aftermarket system will be slightly better.
The original 99ac took up a fair bit of room in the cabin, particulaly on thepassenger side.
The plastic covers housing the condenser will be broken and cracked, and the vents themselves will be in need of repair.
On the engine side of the AC the single belt used to run the alternator and ac compressor is very long and prone to failure every year or so.
Also the cooling system must be in top nick otherwise you will have overheating problems, even without a turbo.
If you are desperate for AC, fit an aftermarket system that addresses some of these problems.
If you absolutely must have an original system, I can chase up a few parts over here for you....just send me an email.
ps my Dad's 83 900T has been to the mechanics 8 or so times this summer for the A/C...so much for the 900 being more relaiable, and I guess my Dad is a little like you....can't live without a/c ;-)
