Brought my saab 9/5 in April for tune-up, oil change,& a dangling fog light to Miller Volvo, whatever. I spoke with Lenny. He seemed to be in good spirits and spoke of buying 25 used Saabs for parts. He hinted that he was going to sell parts to people on the side. I went a couple of weeks later and he was gone for good. They didn't say why. I had to have my keys reprogrammed coz Lenny messed them up by resetting the faulty theft alarm. If Lenny were still there I'm sure that he would have fixed it in a jiffy and wouldn't have charged me $45. It took over an hour to reprogram the keys. I asked where Lenny was and they said that he was no longer with us. I asked how much longer they would be servicing Saabs and they said, "As long as you keep coming for service". I figured that the 3 mechanics were still employed there.
Rumor has it that Saab will not open a franchaise in the Upper Valley.
I heard that The Autobarn has a mechanic who use to work for A&B Motors
in Woodstock. Its in Hartland Vt I believe. I've heard rave reviews about
the place. Jr (Roland St.Sauveur) will also pick up your car and bring it
to Tracy Banks in Concord NH. His Brother Mike's in Springfield vT and he's
a certified Saab mechanic- If you need parts it might hold you up since
Mike doesn't have many parts on hand.
This closing of a great dealership still upsets me, since this business
had been in my family for over 40 yrs. My dad was Charlie St.Sauveur and
it was his idea to sell used cars and then Saabs. Everyone laughed at him,
coz they said that the cars would never sell coz they were so Ugly(egg shaped). I had a 3 stroke 1966 saab 90 (not sure of model). I can still
remember the looks I got when I told the gas attendant to put the oil
in with the gas. The choke was quite the challenge and my dad had to help
me get the thing going on many cold mornings. It use to smoke alot when
it was first started up and it sounded like a popcorn popper.
My sister & I use to ice race and won vs the men. When they made a woman's category it wasn't fun anymore. We beat "Thumper" who ever he was,
and that's when they changed the category. The good old days- Sorry to go
on.
