NG900 or 9-3?

I'm considering replacing my '98 Jetta GLX with a 900SET, 9-3, or something larger like an Audi A6 in order to get more rear seat room for car seats. If I went with the Saab, should I save my money and get a 900, or scrape for a 9-3 (would I get a different answer on the 900 board)? Is there a listing of inherent problems of each somewhere? Comparisons to my Jetta?
I drove a '96 900SET today. Comfy seats, light short throw clutch, and brakes that were a bit vague, especially at first, compared to my Jetta. Are the light clutch and vague brakes normal?
