This is by no means definitive, but as long as you're out there with the car, you might as well start it. That'll help clear the windows, too. I wouldn't recommend just letting it sit, idling, but that may just be my overly, umm, retentive nature talking. Clear windows are neccessary for driving, but a warm car isn't. You won't hurt it by starting your commute when the car is cold. Unless you turn off your street onto an interstate, the car will have time to warm up normally.
As with all cars, and especially turbos, let it warm up a bit (I let it get about 1/4" above the "C", before you pull lots of power from it. During this time I try not to use boost and keep the needle between the first and second segments on the boost gauge. Of course, if a semi is about to flatten me, then I will stomp on it, but I try to drive a bit more defensively with the car cold. I also drive at low rpms the two blocks off the major road back to my place. Can't hurt to be nice to the turbo.
