I jacked up my car and took off my wheel last night in the bitter cold to check the offset on the 16" 5 spoke rims and it turns out that it is 49mm (not 35mm as I thought). so that means that the 17" Aero rim with 215 tires (10mm wider than current tire)and a 49mm offset will only 5mm closer to the strut (there is only maybe 20mm of clearance there now with the 16" and 205 tires). Plenty of room.
Can't wait to get em. Putting them on my SE and putting the 16"s on my wife's 9-3 Base. Keeping the 15" off the base for the winter. I'll post pics when all complete.
Thanks for all of your help.
P.S For those of you looking for these rims, I found 17" inch Aero take offs at two different places. email me if you want specifics.
