Dawes Boost Controller - First report >>> Posted by Keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Keith) on Tue, 27 Mar 2001 12:21:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I installed the Dawes boost controller last night. The install on my 1999 9-3 took a whole ten minutes. I hooked up the blue Dawes hose to the waste gate actuator and the stock hose from the turbo housing to the Dawes BC. The leftover hose that was attached to the waste gate got hooked to the empty outlet on the stock BPC which is now bypassed.
It took a few runs to set the boost. I started off actually being below stock boost and kept adjusting it until I hit the boost cut. BTW, when the boost cut off kicks in it's kind of violent but harmless. It took about 20 minutes to do the adjusting.
Now the car boosts real strong in every gear. The biggest difference is in 1st and 2nd gear were the stock BPC holds boost back. In second I hit into the red on the gauge and can spin the tires if I want. The only thing I have to watch for is if I'm in 4th or 5th gear at a low RPM and go WOT. The extra load on the turbo brings the boost cut early. The solution is simply downshift and nail it. ;-)
For $35 delivered and 30 minutes of time you can't beat it. My car is otherwise stock and probably has more power than the HOT motor. Now I need to get a K&N filter and maybe a performance exhaust to get more from it and let it breathe better.
Happy boosting!
