I've had my convertible for just about month now (990 miles) and I have some comments and questions. As a point of reference, I traded in a '92 Cadillac Allante for the Saab and my other car is a '99 MB E300 TD (turbo diesel). I miss the growl from the Allante's engine, but the manual top and 17MPG just made it too big a hassle for daily driving. I've got an automatic transmission (too lazy for all that shifting in FL traffic)
1. Should I change the oil at 1000 miles? Should I go Mobil 1?
2. I've been using premium gas. Is it really necessary? Not too many hills in FL to climb.
3. How do you remove the rear headrests? I can't seem to find the release that is mentioned in the manual. It'd be nice to take them off as they partially block the view
4. Why did Saab put that goofy drink holder under the center rest instead of a pocket? It's so far back and small that it's almost useless anyway. For that matter, why is there a drink holder that is also too small for a 16 oz soda...and allows condensation to drip all over?
5. The other day (it was hot out) Everytime I turned the key to power up the car the horn started honking and wouldn't stop. Finally, after beating on it a little it ceased. Anyone else experienced this? What do you think it is?
6. Why does Saab warn against using home made CDs? Isn't this a bit ridiculous?
7. If I buy a third party CD/MP3 Head unit that Crutchfield says will fit the Saab will I lose the controls that are on the steering wheel?
8. Anyone think we could convince Saab to make a nicer key? The monstrosity that comes with the car is a pain...and dangerous in one's pocket. Also...why such small buttons on such a big key? Take a look at a VW or MB key for a much nicer solution. I also really liked the feature on my MB that allowed me to close all the windows with the key (hold the lock button in) and open all the windows (hold open button). Supposedly OnStar can do this...so is there way to program the key to do it? Holding the key buttons in caused the panic (oops!) alarm to go off.
9. Anyone know where I can get a trunk protector (Mat?)
10. Anyone know why you can't get the self dimming rearview mirror on the convertible?
11. Will someone please explain the three settings on the headlight switch to me? They always seem to be on...what does the switch control?
12. I now hear that personal calling over OnStar and internet functions won't be available on the convertible (Onstar told me this). Is this true? They said there was a problem with the implementation in the convertible? I don't understand the problem. If I can talk to them...why can't I talk to anyone else?
Oh, please don't mistake my comments, questions for dissatisfaction with my Saab. I'm very happy. After test driving every convertible available it was my favorite. I'm looking forward to many years of happiness with it!
