9-3 base vs. gti 1.8t? Opinions wanted.

My crx had a hard time starting this weekend after sitting in the rain for a couple of days, so I think that was enough for me to get off my fat ass and be serious about buying a new car. I went to a local dealer (Ramsey Saab) on Thursday and drove a base 9-3 with a sunroof. That would be the Saab that I'd get - a base with 3 doors a sunroof, and steel gray color. I'd guess the price should be around $27k. They called me on Friday and said that my preapproval was done for the 0% loan. So, I'm guessing that my payment would be around $400.
I'm going to go to a local VW dealer shortly and look at the gti turbo. Pretty much the same setup: base without leather. That should cost me around $19k with a $350 or so payment with very little down.
Do those figures sound right? I like the Saab because of the interior space that it has, I had a 83 900s, so I love the details that make most other people run screaming from Saab dealers. Also has a better warranty, and Ramsey has free loaners.
But, the gti would be cheaper to buy, I'd guess cheaper to fix once out of warranty, and has a better aftermarket, as well as better stock handling.
Anyone want to share their opinions? Thanks in advance.
