First off, 6 years ago I read an article on heel-toeing. I have no formal training.

Making the pedals equal height doesn't make much sense to me. Let me explain my technique... Maybe we do things differently.

Incidentally, I also have fairly large feet (size 11-11.5, normal width).

I've heel-toe'd all my cars except my latest acquisition (83 Alfa Romeo Spider). Those cars include: 96 Saab 900S, 85 900S, 00 9-5 Aero, 96 Saturn SL1, 98 BMW 328i. All those cars had a brake pedal that was significantly higher than the gas pedal when not pressed. The Alfa's pedal's are about equal.

The term heel-toe is not quite appropriate for my technique, which I think is more common than the contorted heel-toe position from which the name is derived. The pedals are simply close enough for me to use my left side of the right foot for brake, while the right side works the throttle.

So, typically, I bring the brake to about 30-50% use, at which point the pedals are even. At that point, my foot is nicely lined up to blip the throttle.

In the Alfa, I can't apply the brake significantly without blipping the throttle way more than I want to. Given that my 2nd gear synchro is shot (and isn't worth fixing, ever, according the the Alfa guys), I really need to match my rev's on a downshift. Downshifting in the corner is so natural now that I'm having to relearn to shift before or after the corner. It's been tough.
