I had to make a similar decision between the 9-3 vig conv. and a 330 conv. In my opinion, the BMW is a better car. When all things are said and done, I believe the BMW has better resale value, better durability, and has better overall handling. I bought the Saab however because the durability is an issue after 200K which I'll be onto another car by then. And, BMW's are a dime a dozen in CA. I think it comes down to what you want out of a car. Is it finances, image, handling, performance, etc.

If it is finances, check out the cost of insurance, maintenance, spare parts (e.g. headlights, brake jobs, tune-ups, etc.) I'll bet when it's all said and done, the BMW is much more expensive even if you take into account the faster depreciation on a Saab.

I still get pangs of guilt, because I believe the BMW is a better overall car.

But, when I step on the gas and keep up with a M5 on moving acceleration I kind of laugh. And, yes for those doubters, my viggen kept up with the M5 from 70-100.

For the 9-3, that flexibility of the car, speed, handling, hauling capacity is unbeatable. If you are going to be hauling stuff from home depot, or picking up you mom at the airport with lots of luggage, the Saab is second to none. I've had an '88 900 turbo, a '97 900S, and now a 2001 viggen. I could fit more in my old saabs than my wife can in her V70.

Both are great cars. What is it you're looking for?
