Stick with the 93 vs the 900 and ask for all maintenance records. Compare these with all service bulletins and recalls and pay careful attention to oil change frequency, engine work such as repair of oil leaks, brake master cylinders and AC work. Generally these cars if serviced by a good mechanic under warranty should be in excellent shape. The transmissions if auto are generally more durable than the manuals and the base models tend to have less AC electronic issues than the SEs. Engine leaks after 3 years, Brake master cylinder failure and AC issues are some of the most common warranty work performed on 3 and 4 year old 9-3s.
There is no better car for driving fast with a lot of gear. I love my 9-3 qnd 9-5 for their mechanical personalities. Both SAABs are great cars, but if you are looking for used deals, a 98 production year 9-5 (170HP) may be a more refined and less risky bet in the used department.
