Take your replies/queries to SAAB. It's their DEALER SCUSA bulletin for 2003 model year SAAB vehicles.
I would not criticize anybody without my ducks in a row (as you do to me here). I assure you I've got my facts 100% correct with this document.
The point is that SAAB does not mandate 0W-40 oil in any current owners manual, service manual, or TSB. It is an alternative recommendation for "extreme" conditions. Period.
And quoting you:
"Don't tell me the A3's necessary on the semi-syn, but not on the full"
Greg,
That's EXACTLY HOW THE BULLETIN IS WORDED BY SAAB, not me.
If you're peeved about it--write to SAAB. Don't shoot the messenger. If you feel it's ludicrous--it's not my problem. Tell it to SAAB.
This is how they do their daily business. You may personally choose not to accept this--and it is an open, public forum bulletin board--but, this is the reality of the SAAB Cars USA world.
This is PRECISELY how they have advised their DEALER NETWORK !!!
I'm hiding behing NOTHING here. Just sorry you cannot accept this.
Write to:
SAAB CARS USA
Norcross, GA.
And to set the record straight (yet again):
The minimum protection for 9-3 until MY 2003 was semi-syn 5W-30. MY(model year) 2003 is SAAB 0W-30 or Mobil 1 0W-40.
The original poster asked about recommendations for his car ( which was a 1999 ).
Full synthetic Mobil 1 10W-30 oil ( that I originally recommended) clearly exceeds the original minimum owners manual spec of semi-syn 5W-30 oil recommended in 1999.
And FWIW, I drove a 1999 HOT/5 speed, on Mobil 1 10W-30 for 3 yrs. on Mobil 1 10W-30 without incident. My oil-change intervals were 7,500 to 10,000 miles over the 3 years. SAAB OE filters, and AC PF-53 oil filters were used. No problems in Florida summers or Michigan winters. No engine issues whatsoever.
Part of my 1.26 million miles of SAAB experience over the last 26 years that I offer up to this BB.
