having been a VW and BMW service advisor for a number of years in the past. However, the car does this so frequently and so noticeably that I find it hard to believe that they can't get it to do it.
My real issue is that no one in this dealership's service department seems to have any diagnostic skills. The first time they had the car, they checked the codes and found nothing, so one of their technicians drove the car and got it to do it several times immediately. So they have experienced the problem. He brought it back and hooked up some additional diagnostic equipment and drove the car again, but couldn't get it to do anything. Had they installed the equipment first, they may have caught it when they had the chance.
The second time I took it in, they had it for 4 days and drove it several times, but with no diagnostic equipment installed. I asked why, and they said they were just trying to get it to do something. I reminded them that we already went through this exercise and it might be a good idea to have the equipment on the car when they drive it.
So Saab's solution is to have me bring the car in when it's exhibiting the problem. Well, gee, I've already done that, haven't I? So I guess this weekend when it's doing it 150 miles from here at 11 pm on Saturday night, I'll drive to the service manager's house and get him out of bed.
