His comment was "Don't people read manuals any more ;-)" not "Can't you read the manual". Your questions are all fair and perfectly reasonable questions. However, unless I am looking at the wrong posts, I don't think Ravi was attacking you in anyway and his comment about the manaul appears to have been good natured. Moreover, the rest of his post, although short, does have very reasonable advice.
In regard to snow tires it actually is a tough question because it is about difficult compromises. However, under no circumstances would I consider 17" snow tires/wheels for this car. You will get much better winter service with a narrower 16" or 15" tire. An appropriate 16" will undoubtedly fit. I am not 100% certain but believe a 15" should fit too. Without knowing more about your winter driving habits it is hard to make any specific recommendations. Legitimate arguments can be made for either 16" or 15" if they both work out. As Ravi suggests a narrower tire (like the 195/65 15) is typically better for many snow conditions. On the other hand, a lower profile slightly wider tire (like the 205/55 16) is better for dry roads possibly some other conditions.
If you do go with the 16 I would definately go with 205/55 16 not 215/55 R16 (assuming these are the appropriate 16" size which I do believe to be true) for winter use. For many people this would seem the ideal size for this car although the 15 might have merit too.
