Just like many others reading between the lines you have discovered that it is going to be an uphill battle for most owners to get any help if the engine dies of sludge related issues.
The 10,000 mile oil change intervals, or I should say the 5,000 mile change interval during "severe driving conditions" is out in plain open text when reading the owners manual but how many of us really read the abuser manual.
It doesn't help the cause or the car when car sales people loudly proclaim that 15,000 miles is perfectly fine between oil changes just because the corporate office have now decided that.
If your car engine have sludge, you drove the car under severe conditions and you needed to have the oil changed at 5,000 mile intervals. That's how easy it is. Too late though if you are faced with a hefty repair bill.
And a lot of people don't see the 3 min drive to church and back every Sunday as being severe driving even though people in the car repair business know that, that is the worst kind of driving you can do to your car.
It is also very strange that dealerships are allowed to use whatever oil they find suited and not having to use the minimum required quality that the corporate office demand for the warranty to be valid?
