My very first car here in US was a 72 Olds 98 and it blew the fuse for wipers now and then and I couldn't find the short.
Finally instead of putting a new fuse in, I held a screwdriver over the posts and instantly I heard a spark and some smoke from left side dash board.
It was one of the dash board illumination light assemblys that had falling into the dash and was shorting out against the frame work, and that fuse was also used for the wipers.
It took me a split second to find the problem but I still don't suggest to do that on todays cars.
You could harm some of the sensitive computers on board.
