If you know nothing about cars, take it to the dealer and do what ever they say it'll be more expensive to own than the space shuttle. A crooked or incompetant (they often come as a matched set) mechanic can make any car an expensive nightmare to own--even Hondas and Toyotas. On the other hand if you shop for parts and service, take the time to find that gem of an independant mechanic who knows Saabs, maybe do a few odds and ends yourself, they're really pretty reasonable. As a former long time VW buff (I also sold them), in my experience Saabs are actually cheaper to maintain. As a former used car dealer specializing in imported cars under $5K (most of which had 100,000 miles plus), I usualy put as much money into a Honda, Toyota, or Subaru to get it ready to sell as I did a Saab. I also own a '98 NG900 (132,000 miles)and it's been the cheapest most reliable Saab I've ever owned. Reading through posts is a little misleading because all you ever hear from is the people having problems but not the ones having clear sailing. All cars cost money to own and Saabs are much cheaper to maintain than the heresay "evidence" would suggest.
