I will admit that I am not that familiar with your car, was on this board looking for other solutions for my 9000 (headlight wipers). On a 1994 9000 with a 2.3 turbo engine, there are multiple temperature sensors (probably similar on your car):
1. Engine temp sensor for ECU, buried between the intake runners for the #2 and #3 cyliners.
2. Engine temp sensor for the temp gauge (and on later years the cooling fan), located on the end of the cylineder head near the thermostat on the transmission side of the engine.
3. Intake air temp sensor located on the metal pipe between the outlet of the intercooler and the throttle body.
If either #1 or #3 above is messed up, you will get incorrect running. In addition, if the resistance curve is different for the 9000 sensor that you tried, you will also get incorrect results. I think that you need to measure the resistance on the sensors to dismiss them from the possible culprits.
