If you had sludging everything I read indicates that once it happens there is just too much damage to track everything down.
I think there was a Nines article written by a mechanic at Andrews Saab (name?) in Andrews, Minnesota that said that even one missed oil change even early in its life is just a ticking time bomb.
Your options are limited after that. I don't know what engine options there are but a '99 could be useful. Problem is you are getting into a situation where you could get a used whole car for about the same as what it would cost to drop in a used engine.
Unless, you have the time and space to part out the donor car. Or yours if you switch cars.
