suspect oil pump and/or pickup tube Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Sat, 2 Oct 2010 11:01:08 In Reply to: Re: oil woes, sad9-3, Sat, 2 Oct 2010 08:06:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Internal engine crud loosened by Sea Foam may have seriously plugged oil pickup tube, despite your repeated oil and filter changes. Can try bent coat hanger crud fishing through drain plug in oil pan to see if this is the case. Oil pump is next suspect. Andrews of Princeton (saabpros website) had a Nines article that said for a time Saab made lobe type oil pumps with too much clearance in the gaps, resulting in low oil pressure. Scored oil pump cavity in timing cover or oil pump cover would have same effect. Also oil pump cover has to be aligned on a dowel. Finally that big circlip that holds oil pump cover to timing cover has to have its beveled side facing out. Turbo00's suggestion to measure oil pressure is a good one. On my NG900 non-turbo, I use the 14x1.5mm plug on the oil filter housing with a auction house gauge and summit racing metric to 1/8-inch NPT adapter. The turbo engines use this for turbo oil supply, so would have to have some kind of "T" adapter to maintain turbo oil supply. Or maybe one could have oil gravity temporarily fed to turbo tube while making pressure measurements.
