Any easier to swap the filter during my pump swap?

I've decided to cut through the top to get at it more simply (and stay dry and warm). Well that and the fact that my tank is FULL of gas so dropping it myself is a daunting thought right now.

Somebody here said, "change the filter at the same time". Is that any easier having the pump out (of the top / access hole under seat) or is it just a separate job at this point (no easier or harder with the pump out of the top hole as it is without that)?
