I have both as well, a 2001 SE and base model 2009. I've had the '09 for a few months already, and I think I prefer the older car. Sure, the newer one is larger and probably a bit safer than the old one. Every time I get into the newer Saab, I can't get past the feeling that I'm not driving a true Saab.
Would I buy the car again if I had the choice? Yes, it's newer, probably safer, and still a smooth ride. I haven't had to make any repairs yet but time will tell if it was worth it.
