Figured I'd start a new thread, since this thread:
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=308633
appears to be about crankshaft end play.... but isn't.
Roger D blew my mind with his comment "eeuro's economy seal doesn't fit like the factory seal" which suddenly offered an explanation as to why two different transmissions both leaked from the same place.... the torque converter seal.
I received a T received a Timken 223830 and a National 223830 today, both of which are specified for the transmission. They are slightly different from each other and both VERY different from the SKF 14772 thet eeuro sells. Both are resin coated vs the SKF's lack of any coating, and both have a slight but visibly smaller ID. Crappy measuring suggests about 1mm.
I *have* verified that the 14772 is the seal SKF specifies for the AW50, so it's not an eeuro mistake. It's really odd that two brands of seal are so markedly different than the third.
I have the genuine seal en route now and will compare all three, but these obvious up-front differences are inspiring. :)
