Jim,
That is nice to know. My dealer did not have to remove it, or the exhaust to the the clutch and seal work. The engine seal was also replaced without any oil loss. There are two possibilities for that. One: is that the engine was never tilted at all. Two: the engine was tilted somewhat to allow the trany removal, then leveled out during the engine seal removal and replacement.
As I said, the exhaust was lowered a bit, not removed, requiring some O2 sensor lead slack. The turbo intake and intercooler hoses were not removed.
So the dealer figured out the most economcal method of doing the work. Good for them! I would not be surprised if the Saab manuals described a less efficient procedure.
If we can get some knowledge on these details, it would be very helpful, to allow those with the time, extra car, and inclination to make an informed decision as to whether to attempt to do this work them selves.
The folks on the Classic 900 BB have a vast amount of experience in wrenching their Saabs. This BB is just getting to the point where some members will get into some serious DIY work. We no longer represent a fleet of new vehicles which we don't understand. Our concerns are getting past warrantee and dealer issues. Our collective knowledge base is maturing.
