95 900SEC V6 Auto
First winter with the Saab and yet to be really challenged on slippery roads. Best vehicle in my experience for snow is Audi Quattro. Either myself or my wife has had one going on 16 years in Central Pa.; current '02 A6 Quattro is phenomenal - wife's car. The tiptronic transmission allows for manual shifting so when approaching a down hill run you can select the gear (1-5) you want and let the engine brake. I've never been unable to leave from a standstill on steep upslopes despite slippery conditions. I also have an 88 F250 4x4 with a plow (I live down a long lane in the woods) and it provides plenty of traction for plowing (it has good snow tires on it and I don't think I could get it stuck) but I hate the feeling of driving it at even moderate speeds out on the road in slippery conditions because of the lousy center of gravity and light back end. Back in the "salad days" I had a 68 Buick with rwd that actively tried to kill me when I drove it in snow. I put studded tires on it and it behaved. They are quite an invention but the studs wear out long before the tires do so replacement is much more frequent.
