I'm a little surprised by the "you should have known it wasn’t free, pay up" sentiment. I don't think the consumer is responsible for knowing the cost of everything at the dealer, or the cost or coverage of maintenance under warrantee. The dealer is the expert on these issues, and if the dealer stated the work was free and you agreed to it as such, that was his error and he is responsible. Imagine walking into Best Buy and buying a plasma TV on sale, only to be called back in two weeks to be informed that it wasn’t on a sale and you owe an extra $130. The thought of this occurring in any business other than a car dealership, to me borders on the ridiculous.
If you cannot resolve things with the service manager, I would speak with his superior. I suspect someone at the dealership more familiar with business will understand the situation. However, if they insist on billing you, paying the $130 is probably a heck of a lot easier than perusing the matter legally or not paying and dealing with credit agencies. I also understand the “good will” point of other posters, and that should be considered, but trying to stick you with this bill seems like an egregiously non-good will gesture on their part to me.
