I would recommend that she go to a school that has a strong curriculum in her academic area of interest, not just her chosen field. As OKSaabs pointed out, many pre-med students change their career aspirations while in college. Also, settling on a single career path from the very beginning offers very little flexibility. A broad undergraduate area with major in her area of academic interest will serve her the best. So I would recommend against majoring in anything that begins with the prefix pre-.
I think we will see an increasing trend towards undergraduates changing their career aspirations away from medicine, as they (if they) learn what the future of medicine may be like and are noticing trends in choice of specialization and the reasons for those trends. So flexibility is key. If she loves science, then majoring in a scientific field will offer her vastly more options than majoring in pre-med, which basically only means that she took the required courses for med school admission. If she loves literature or language or anthropology, then I would say major in what she loves, and cover her bases by taking the med school requirements as well.
