One outlier on this continuum: Infinity G37? I'm curious what you think of the Infinity G35/G37, which seems to be a luxury/performance oriented car built by a Japanese company, and one version is available with a manual transmission, if that's a criteria for an enthusiast car. I seem to recall that it has gotten rave reviews, comparisons to BMW, etc. To me it's an overpriced performance-tuned Altima, but I really don't know that much about it.
Regarding reliability, my parents have an old Infinity I30 (similar V6 engine) and I believe that the only repairs that it has required in ten years are brakes, battery, tires and CV boots - OK, they don't do skidpad tests and "brake checks", etc., but they also don't pay any attention to maintaining the car. Having recently replaced the battery 2nd one?), I looked under the hood and was impressed by how easy it appears to service key parts.
