Practical Sailor magazine, April, 2009 tested PB Blaster, WD40, Liquid Wrench, CRC Freeze Off and found PB Blaster worked best for freeing rusted fasteners on a boat trailer. The CRC uses thermal expansion to break the bond, the others are lubricants and solvents. Frankly, I've found that wherever possible, getting the main part to a work bench is often worth the extra effort, if that can be done. Too many off center holes and broken drill bits over the years. Also, I discovered Cobalt drill bits. These are a an alloy with real Cobalt in it, not just plating. They cut much better than HSS if you need to drill out a broken fastener, especially an issue when it's in softer or different surrounding material like aluminum or cast iron. Aircraft Spruce has them, although sizes are limited.
