The triangular thread is for locking. It has multiple trademark names, like Powerlok/Taptite/Trilobular.
It definetely does not behave nice in rust prone environment as the whole thread becomes exposed to moisture. The strut mount bolts on my 9-5 have the same shape and also were hard to remove - required generous application of wd-40 and going back and forth multiple times.
